5 Tips to Stop Text Message Spam

Ever getting annoying text messages claiming you’ve won a $100 Giftcard? We do too, and we hate text spam just as much as you do. Really.

Here are some tips to make sure you don’t receive those pesky texts anymore:

1. You can change your preferences of message sources that are allowed to be sent to your phone with your carrier. Short codes (like Call-Em-All’s 292929) have rules that must be followed, including honoring STOP, CANCEL, and QUIT.  Every short code must be tested and approved before it is allowed to send messages.  Long codes (10-digit numbers, e-mail addresses, etc) do not have such administration.

If you’re an AT&T customer, you can manage your preferences at this site. Verizon customers, you can also manage these preferences then go to the Spam Blocking tab.

5 Tips to Stop Text Message Spam

2. If a specific 10-digit phone number continues to spam your cell phone, you can contact your carrier to block a certain number. (If you use AT&T, you can do so here.)

3. According to the New York Times, replying to the message, even with words like Stop, Cancel, or Quit, may verify to the spammers that you have a working number that can be resold.

4. Therefore, the best tactic to prevent SMS spam is to not reply to the message and forward the message to 7726 (SPAM) to notify your carrier so they can investigate.

5. If you have a smartphone, there may be apps you can download to prevent spam. For Androids, we hear that the Anti SMS Spam & Text Filter is a useful app.

Short Code Transfers Are Now Available!

Switching from another automated text message provider to Call-Em-All is now even easier with our new short code transfer system! As a reminder, a “short code” is the number someone texts to start receiving text message broadcasts from you (i.e. text keyword to 292929).

Once you decide to transfer short codes, a text message will be sent out to those currently subscribed and inform them of the new changes taking place. One message will be sent on the old short code, and then one will be sent on the new short code to let the users know they will be receiving text messages from the new number.

For example, subscribers will receive text messages that may look like this:

Last Alert on Old Short Code

Little League Softball Alerts
are moving to short code 292929.
Future alerts will come from that code.

Reply STOP to cancel receiving
Little League Softball Alerts.

First Alert on New Short Code

Little League Softball Alerts will now
be delivered on short code 292929.

Reply STOP to cancel receiving
Little League Softball Alerts.

Have questions or want to switch your short code? We’d be more than happy to help. Feel free to live chat with us at www.call-em-all.com, e-mail us at accountsupport@call-em-all.com, or call us at 877.226.3080.

text message marketing What Every Marketer Needs to Know About Text Message MarketingText message marketing, what does it all mean?
The emergence and adoption of mobile marketing among businesses seems to mirror that of social media – everyone is talking about it; few businesses are using it; and of those using it, very few are using it well. According to the 2010 U.S. Local Mobile Advertising and Promotions Forecast, text message marketing spend was $90 million in 2009 and is expected to hit $6.52 billion in the next four years. Yet despite this rapid growth, text message marketing, particularly text message coupons are still very much in their infancy. Although most businesses are fully aware of the marketing potential of text message couponing (namely its ability to reach customers anywhere, at anytime, with any message) many marketers still have not found effective ways of harvesting that potential and transforming it into sales. For this reason, we are providing a list of some of the potential opportunities and challenges that marketers will need to acknowledge if they are going to have a chance at harnessing the power of mobile couponing.
